Separated by knolls outside of Shenzhen's most-modernized areas, Dapeng Village occupies a basin on the peninsula’s east coast. It's named after a giant mythical bird, called the "peng" in Chinese, which also lends its name to one of Shenzhen's nicknames: Pengcheng, meaning "peng city."

There's a laid-back atmosphere here, with locals on scooters cruising along tree-lined avenues.
